We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to our dedicated team at Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court, Inc., Marquise S. Hunt, who will serve as the ACT NOW Portsmouth Community Advocate and Coordinator for the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative. Marquise comes to us with a rich tapestry of experience as a social justice interlocutor and executive campaign strategist, having worked tirelessly across the nation to empower communities through voter registration, civic engagement, and social justice.
Marquise’s passion for enacting change is deeply personal and rooted in his community. His journey began with the NAACP at the tender age of fourteen, which was galvanized in 2015 following the tragic death of William L. Chapman II in Portsmouth. A testament to his dedication, Marquise has held several prestigious positions within the NAACP, contributing to the policy-making process for young people across the association and shaping the Youth and College Policy agendas. His commitment extends beyond organizational boundaries as he works with political institutions, civil rights groups, and grassroots organizations to dismantle the barriers facing Black and Brown communities through social and policy reform.
In his role with ACT NOW Portsmouth, Marquise will channel his expertise to uplift our youth, ensuring that they have the opportunities, support, and resources to thrive in a society that acknowledges and values them. The Safe and Successful Youth Initiative under his guidance will benefit immensely from his unique insights into the socio-political landscape and his unwavering dedication to equality and justice. As we embark on this journey together, we are confident that Marquise’s influence will lead to meaningful advancements in our work.
Marquise is enthusiastic about continuing to forge paths for social and civil progression, especially among aging and millennial populations. We are inspired by his zeal and look forward to the impactful contributions he will bring to our community.
