A United Effort for a Brighter Future

The Virginia CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program recently marked a significant milestone with its State Directors Retreat, held at the scenic Rosalyn Retreat and Conference Center in Henrico County. This two-day event, spanning November 16th and 17th, brought together the brightest minds and the most dedicated hearts in child advocacy from across the Commonwealth.

Inspirational Attendance

Among the attendees was Carlos Clanton, our Executive Director of the Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court, that powers the Portsmouth CASA program. His presence, along with other influential CASA program leaders, symbolized a collective commitment to enhancing the lives of children in need.

A Collaborative Agenda

The retreat was more than just a gathering; it was a crucible of ideas and strategies. Discussions delved into crucial topics, including:

  • Program Funding: Exploring sustainable financial pathways to strengthen CASA initiatives.
  • Staff Development: Fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Volunteer Training & Recruitment: Sharing best practices to attract and empower community volunteers.
  • Legislative Advocacy: Preparing for an impactful legislative agenda to further CASA’s mission.

Team Building: The Core of Collaboration

At the heart of the retreat was an emphasis on team building. Engaging activities and workshops not only nurtured a spirit of camaraderie among the leaders but also reinforced the importance of working together for a common cause.

A Word from Carlos Clanton

Reflecting on the retreat, Carlos Clanton remarked, “This retreat has been a beacon of hope and a testament to our collective resolve. By uniting our efforts, sharing our experiences, and learning from each other, we are setting the stage for a future where every child’s voice is heard, and their rights are protected. Together, we are stronger.”

Looking Forward

As the retreat concluded, the air was filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. The Virginia CASA Program, with its dedicated leaders and unwavering commitment, continues to be a shining example of advocacy and compassion in action.
